Recurring Features

January 12, 2008

So a few posts back I mentioned I was interested in creating a few recurring features for the blog, and this post is introducing two of them!

The first will be part of my 2008 Resolutions. Number 4 is to read three books a month, outside of school-related books, for a total of 36 books at the very minimum. At the end of every month or beginning, I will write reviews for the books I am reading. On January 31st or February 1st, I will review this months books which I categorize under “Books I Could Watch”. They are:

The other feature will be about reflecting on my past and trying to remember some of the cool things I have done. I’ll do this every week or every other week and it will be called “Reflection Friday”. I’m just so cool to have come up with a name like that, I know.

Also, everyone should check out Adam’s WordPress powered site at www.adamp.ca.

Fishy Blog Revamping – Quick Hit

January 5, 2008

Photobucket

Tomorrow Adam and I will be sitting down and revamping this site, so expect some changes! Probably more pink (my favourite colour) and maybe a new layout.

Also, I’m going to be job hunting and buying a new fish. I’m super excited for the fish!

YAY! – Quick hit

January 3, 2008

I got a four year full-tuition scholarship after graduating high school, but I messed up in my first year, so I lost my funding for the second (and then got it back for my third year).
I just found out today it wasn’t for four consecutive years, just four years over all. Which means next year’s tuition is paid in full!

Meaning it may have just gotten easier to justify travelling this summer!

New Years Parte Deux

January 1, 2008

So, Alexisonfire last night!
Went to dinner at Boston Pizza because we’re so incredibly classy (and Chianti looked busy). Then we took off to Mac Hall for the show. We missed the first band, Madcowboys, so I can’t talk about them.

chixdiggitThen came Chixdiggit (inset – see! super cuties!). I knew they were from Calgary, and that was it. I was more than pleasantly surprised! The music was catchy and the band was super endearing, I could have taken them all home in my pocket. Adorable and good at what they do. Indeed.

Then came 10 Second Epic (no link for you!), who was not epic and I only watched 10 seconds of them prior to leaving to save my sanity. I dubbed it “you’re-cutting-the wrong-way-music”, bad emo shit. The last song they played was a radio “hit” on X92.9 (the radio show hosting the shindig), and one that I had found myself making fun of time and time again. I believe it’s called “Count Yourself In”, which is a whiney, nasally sap song that I imitate by making nasally noises in tune to the lyrics. The only good part about their set (which I could hear from where I had gone to sit) was their cover of Third Eye Blind’s “How’s It Going to Be” (I think that was it), which they announced they were not going to be performing anymore. Sad they’re getting rid of the only good part of the show, but I must admire their dedication to not making music I enjoy.

George Petite

So of course, Alexisonfire came on after that. 11:30 their set started (sooo late for me haha), and it rocked. Some songs were a bit off, like they were a few seconds off from each other, but no matter, because they gave it their all. Dallas Green was cute and charming, just doing his thing. The drummer…well what can you say about drummers, they rock out and sit in the back. Wade was amazing because I have my secret 50’s poodle-skirt crush on him and all. The bassist, Chris Steele, looked like a serial killer with his epic (yes more epic than 10 Second Epic) beard and messy crazy hair. My only complaint about him was that he was wearing a white v-neck t-shirt that gave the illusion of him having well defined breasts. Intentional? I don’t know. He ripped his shirt at the end, and indeed, he did not have boobs. And of course, my baby’s daddy, George Pettit (again inset – sexy) was there, in fine form. *swooning*

Probably the best parts of the show were these:
1. When Wade kissed George. Awesome.
2. When they came back out on encore, said they had written a special song and it was the first time playing it, and ten proceeded to play the song they had just finished with, Accidents. Gotta love rock stars with a sense of humour.

And then I went home.

Oh, and I got attacked by several hardcore Tool fans, for wearing a Tool hoodie/being with Adam who was wearing a Tool hoodie. One good encounter with a guy who was a Tool fan, discussing seeing Tool in various places, I think his name was Garret Head (sp?) and he was talking about his band, which I cannot find. Sad state of affairs. Anyways. Side note: I hate people who are really into the music and get crazy and violent, yet insist on being crazy jackasses in the outer rings where the people who just want to stand politely or maybe toe-tap are. Jerks. Go into the mosh pit!

Leave tomorrow to go back to Lethbridge, and I can guarantee I will have a lot less to write about…

New Year’s Eve

December 31, 2007

So… New Year’s is upon on us (at least in Canada, in Japan it’s already happened, but sadly I am not there). In less than 12 hours I will be in a whole new year. And what, 4 more to go until the Mayan Prediction of the end of the world?
I’m celebrating tonight by going to the show being put on by a local radio station X 92.9 where Alexisonfire is playing along with Chixdiggit, 10 Second Epic and…someone else (none of which get links, take that shit rock!!!…actually I’ve never heard of any of them, so I don’t know if they are shit rock).
I guess the fourth band is Madcowboys. Doesn’t that sound like fun. If you can’t tell, I’m going to see Alexisonfire. Adam got me into them a while back, but only their newer stuff. I still can’t stand the incessant screaming on their older albums. But I digress.
That is what I am doing for New Years, nothing overly exciting. Dinner and a concert at MacEwan Hall.

I got a job interview too, which is good. It’s on January 2nd, for an on-campus job. I need money for travelling this summer. I’m hoping to convince my mom to let me take her to Scotland (#258 on the list). Hopefully we can do other things, like spending a few nights in a Scottish Castle (#86), or drinking tea in England (#220), or dancing in Stonehenge (#107). So yes, job interview in a few days, so I can pay my rent and save up for travelling this summer! And get like 10398102398 things off my list done!

My mom better let me take her, otherwise she’s getting a lot more than a kick in the ass!

Randomness for today

December 29, 2007

So a friend suggested I do two things:

1. video casts for this site
2. video tape me doing things on my list

And I am taking them to heart, expect the first video-cast when I get back home to Lethbridge.

I’m going out dancing tonight, I think. Love it. Had brunch at Avenue Diner on 8th ave in Calgary (wasn’t a huge fan), shopped at Winners (hello 7.99 high ball glasses!), and watched Sweeney Todd at the Globe Cinema (love Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter!, not so big on the movie itself).

So I hope everyone has noticed that no where on my list is having a child. This is intentional. I don’t want babies. I’ve been thinking about it lately, and the Hollywood Baby Explosion is bothering me. I don’t know why. It’s like none of them know what birth control is! Whatever, I’m sure some of them were planned. Especially Jaime Lynn’s, right?

There was something else I was going to say, but I can’t for the life of me remember.
